What search engines see without RSServer

Online forums are perfect examples of websites which need RSServer's help. As an example, we take a look at a webmaster's forum.

http://www.webmasterforums.com (note we have no association with this website).

The url of a typical post on this site looks like:

http://www.webmasterforumsonline.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=1308&PN=1

This is clearly not search engine friendly. As we can see the (?) question mark and query strings that follow it.

What will the search engine see after RSServer rewrite

This is what the url looks like after we apply RSServer realtime rewrite:

http://www.reallysimplesoft.com/webmasterforumsonline
					/forum_topics_asp/FID/9.html

For now let's ignore the "http://www.reallysimplesoft.com/webmasterforumsonline" part of the url. This is because RSServer runs on our site and acts as a proxy to that site.

Let's focus on the later part of the url, which is "forum_topics_asp/FID/9.html"

Notice how the initial query string: "forum_posts.asp?TID=1308&PN=1", was changed to: "forum_topics_asp/FID/9.html", which is static and will be indexed by the search engines.

We eat our own dog food

Just in case you have not noticed, this entire site runs on the RSServer. Please feel free to check out our support forums, which is based on phpBB, the internet's most popular open source bulletin board package.

The only problem with phpBB though, is it uses dynamic urls through out the package. Therefore, many popular forums aren't getting the high search rankings they deserve from Google or other search engines.

That is going to change, with the introduction of RSServer, because we make the dynamic pages look static.

For example, a page looks like this originally in phpBB:

http://www.reallysimplesoft.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2

is now:

http://www.reallysimplesoft.com/forums/viewtopic-php-t-2.html

using the Fixed Style option introduced in v2.2
